Planetary Indexing Systems

Rotary indexing tables with planetary units are "the specialists" for multiple side machining in rotary cycle machines. There are as many designs as there are workpieces and their machining. Fibro, a specialist in rotary indexing tables, has available all the elements from its series production as well as the experience and equipment to meet even the most difficult requirements.

Carrier indexing table

The carrier rotary indexing table as basis is a FIBROTAKT® with flat toothing. This gives the table permanently the precise pitch and a very good rigidity.

The indexing plate is either lifting or not lifting. The lifting design (type 11.13 ...) is used for lower mass moments of inertia and therefore for smaller indexing plates. The switching movement is carried out by a hydraulically operated rack and pinion.

The non-lifting version (type 10.36 ...) is used for high moments of inertia and short switching times. Particularly advantageous is the Störkonturfreie housing with bottom drive. The switching movement is performed by a servo motor with bevel-helical gearbox via a pinion shaft to a large drive gear

Unlocking and locking the face gear is hydraulic.

Rotary indexing tables with face gear

  • FIBROTAKT® with pneumatic or hydraulic actuation (Type 11.11... or 11.13...) for both consistent onward-indexing or pendulum operation.
  • FIBROTAKT® in a special design; as flexible solution with a dividing potential limited only by the tooth number (e.g. 360 x 1°). A stationary, hydraulically engageable NC drive unit is located beneath the planet units in those stations where positioning of the planet units is required.

Rotary tables with worm drive

  • FIBROPLAN® NC rotary table with hydraulic clamping (Type NC 1/NC 2). With an NC control system, a servomotor and rotary encoder, any position can be approached. In addition, rotary milling is possible. A reliable connection between the drive and the NC control system is achieved by flexible cable ducting above the centre of the carrier indexing table, which imposes a limitation to continued indexing. With division 2, the carrier indexing table works in pendulum mode. With all other divisions, e.g. division 6, the backwards movement to the initial position takes place in one step, after 5 x 60° step-by-step forward motions. During the indexing motion of the carrier indexing table, it is possible to position the planet units.
  • FIBROPLAN® in a special design; as flexible solution with all the dividing potential provided by the rotary encoder. A stationary, hydraulically engageable NC drive unit is located beneath the planet units in those stations where positioning of the planet units is required.

With the designs described above, the planet units can be positioned with either vertical or horizontal axes.

Transfer indexing table with planetary units

As all other indexing tables with planetary units, this type also serves as central unit on rotary transfer machines. The special feature is that the enabled section of the indexing tables is mounted circularly and at an even divisional pitch on a stationary base. The carrier indexing table transports the planetary units, which are designed here exclusively as workpiece carriers (pallets), to the rotary indexing tables, where they are positively secured and clamped. The advantages of the system are: fixed assignment of the rotary indexing table to the processing units in each individual station; complete exchange of the workpiece carriers allowing fast changeover.

Auxiliary equipment

The application of transfer indexing tables with planetary units is extended by additional designs and variants

  • Twin planet units: Two closely spaced planet units per station. The rotation is provided by a common drive.
  • Planet units with pallet holding fixtures.
  • Combination of planet units with tail stock or counter bearing.
  • Rotary feedthroughs through the carrier indexing table and the planetary units, adapted to the requirements of the workpiece clamping.
